{"id":603,"date":"2017-01-02T14:00:50","date_gmt":"2017-01-02T14:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hcequestrian.com\/?p=603"},"modified":"2023-08-15T18:11:27","modified_gmt":"2023-08-15T18:11:27","slug":"blue-the-land-yacht","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hcequestrian.com\/?p=603","title":{"rendered":"Blue the Land Yacht"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I was a teenager in the 1996, I was often assigned to drive my dad&#8217;s 1981 Lincoln Town Car. &nbsp;While driving a fifteen year old car really doesn&#8217;t sound that bad, I&#8217;m pretty sure Adam Sandler wrote a song about this particular&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/pjHkIm3Z3gA\">Piece of Shit Car<\/a>. Incidentally, this song came out the year I got my driver&#8217;s lisence, and I heard it for the first time while I was piloting the land yacht up highway 680 in Walnut Creek.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hcequestrian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_7333.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/hcequestrian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_7333.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"935\" height=\"554\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-601\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hcequestrian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_7333.jpg 935w, https:\/\/hcequestrian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_7333-300x178.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hcequestrian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/img_7333-768x455.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 706px) 89vw, (max-width: 767px) 82vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><i>This is a 1981 Lincoln Town Car.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>While my friends were listening to Nine Inch Nails on their cars&#8217; CD players, I was bumping &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/3fRkoa9Ek5c\">Floyd Cramer <\/a>on the 8-track. &nbsp;I couldn&#8217;t listen to the way cooler Best of Blondie 8-track because old Floyd was stuck in there forever and never coming out.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hcequestrian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/img_7344.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/hcequestrian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/img_7344.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"374\" height=\"382\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-610\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hcequestrian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/img_7344.jpg 374w, https:\/\/hcequestrian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/img_7344-294x300.jpg 294w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 374px) 100vw, 374px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nOh, you don&#8217;t know who Floyd Cramer is? &nbsp;I&#8217;ve never met anyone who was into him born after 1931. &nbsp;My dad listened to him while driving his RV, and my grandpa listened to him while getting drunk in his garage. &nbsp;I listened to him while being a subversive goth teenager on my way to Catholic all-girls school.<\/p>\n<p>I digress. &nbsp;I drove this leviathan of a car, which was often mistaken for a limo. &nbsp;I once got 13 people in it! &nbsp;The gas gauge didn&#8217;t work, the driver&#8217;s window didn&#8217;t open, and the head liner sagged and tickled my head. &nbsp;Good thing I wasn&#8217;t a tree-head goth, my hair wouldn&#8217;t have fit in the car.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hcequestrian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/830e7c85-99c8-4ed5-b128-2a9984dc0c26-2282-000002b662b57ca8_tmp.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/hcequestrian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/830e7c85-99c8-4ed5-b128-2a9984dc0c26-2282-000002b662b57ca8_tmp.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"222\" height=\"224\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-602\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hcequestrian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/830e7c85-99c8-4ed5-b128-2a9984dc0c26-2282-000002b662b57ca8_tmp.jpg 222w, https:\/\/hcequestrian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/830e7c85-99c8-4ed5-b128-2a9984dc0c26-2282-000002b662b57ca8_tmp-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 222px) 100vw, 222px\" \/><\/a><i>Robert Smith of the Cure is the quintessential tree head<\/i><\/p>\n<p>In the winter the sun roof leaked on me, and in the summer my black polish would melt off my fingers if I had to drive up the grade to Clayton&#8230; If I didn&#8217;t turn the heater on, the car would overheat. &nbsp;Every time I drove the car, I had to lift the hood to put power steering fluid in. &nbsp;Stops had to be planned out a quarter mile in advance. &nbsp; I even had a mouse that lived in the door panel, and would jump out, then back in, whenever I shut the door.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know who decided to call this behemoth a &#8220;town car&#8221;. &nbsp;Maybe a town with large parking spaces and no traffic. &nbsp;What reason could there possibly be for having a seven foot long hood?
